Search Tips & Guidance
Follow these guidelines to quickly locate technical standards, engineering codes, and specifications in our database.
1. Best Search Practices
Search by Standard Designation Number
Entering the exact standard designation yields the fastest and most accurate search results.
Example: ISO 9001 or ASME B31.3
Omit Revision Years for Current Version
To locate the active/latest edition of a standard, leave out revision years or edition suffix letters.
Example: Search "ASTM A36" instead of "ASTM A36-19"
Remove Hyphens and Spaces
If your standard code contains hyphens or spaces, try searching with and without punctuation.
Example: Try "BS EN 10025" or "BS-EN-10025"
2. Advanced Search Operators
Use these search syntax options in the search bar to narrow down specific titles:
- Exact Phrase Match: Wrap your query in double quotes (e.g.,
"pipe flange dimensions") to match the exact title string. - Publisher Filter: Include publisher acronyms alongside keywords (e.g.,
API 650 storage tanksorISO 14001 audit). - Keyword Combination: Combine primary technical terms to find specific subject areas (e.g.,
welding steel structures). - Numeric Search: If you are unsure of the prefix, search the core document digits (e.g.,
10025orD1.1).
3. Common Search Solutions
Cannot Find a Specific Document?
Document designations are periodically revised by publishers. If a full title query brings no results, search using only the core document number.
